Understanding Our Base Freight Fee

At Uniforms.com.au, we aim to keep freight charges fair, transparent and as close as possible to the actual cost of delivering your order.

Because every uniform order is different, the exact delivery cost cannot always be calculated when an order is placed. For this reason, the freight amount displayed at checkout is a Base Freight Fee.

What is the Base Freight Fee?

The Base Freight Fee is an initial estimated contribution towards the cost of packing and delivering your order. It allows you to place your order without being charged an inflated freight amount simply to cover every possible delivery scenario.

The Base Freight Fee is not always the final freight cost. The actual charge may need to be adjusted once your completed order has been packed and we know its precise shipping requirements.

Why can’t the final freight cost be calculated at checkout?

The true delivery cost can only be confirmed when your order is ready for dispatch. At that point, we can provide the courier with the information needed to calculate the correct freight charge, including:

  • The number of boxes or satchels required

  • The dimensions of each package

  • The final packed weight

  • The quantity and type of garments ordered

  • The delivery postcode

  • Whether the address is metropolitan, regional or remote

  • Any oversized or bulky items

  • The courier services available for the destination

A small order of lightweight T-shirts may fit into one satchel, while an order containing jackets, workwear or larger quantities may require several boxes. Even two orders with the same number of garments can have very different packed sizes and weights.

The destination also makes a significant difference. Delivery to a metropolitan postcode will often cost less than delivery to a regional or remote location.

Why don’t we use an automated freight calculator?

We have tested automated freight-calculation applications. However, these systems do not always accurately account for the many combinations of garment sizes, quantities, weights, package dimensions and delivery locations involved in uniform orders.

To protect the supplier from undercharging, automated systems are often configured to charge customers more than the likely freight cost. While this may make checkout simpler, it can result in customers paying unnecessarily high delivery fees.

We do not believe that is the fairest approach.

Instead, we apply a reasonable Base Freight Fee when your order is placed and confirm the actual freight cost once the order has been packed. This helps us avoid routinely overcharging customers while still ensuring that the correct delivery cost is ultimately paid.

What happens when my order is ready?

Once your order has been completed and packed, we obtain the actual delivery cost from the most appropriate freight provider. Depending on your order and location, this may include CouriersPlease, Australia Post or another suitable carrier.

If the actual freight cost is higher than the Base Freight Fee already paid, we will contact you and issue an invoice for the difference. This additional amount must be paid before the order can be dispatched.

Ww will also provide evidence of the courier charge so you can see how the final freight amount was calculated. Our intention is to be completely transparent—we do not use freight adjustments as a hidden source of profit.

Why we use this approach

Our Base Freight system is designed to balance convenience, accuracy and fairness.

It allows us to:

  • Avoid applying inflated freight charges to every order

  • Calculate delivery using the order’s actual packed size and weight

  • Account accurately for metropolitan, regional and remote destinations

  • Select an appropriate courier for each delivery

  • Provide customers with greater transparency

  • Charge freight based on the real requirements of each order

We understand that an additional freight charge can be unexpected. That is why the Base Freight arrangement is explained during checkout and included in our Terms and Conditions, which must be accepted before an order is placed.

Our goal is simple: to charge a fair and accurate freight amount based on the actual cost of delivering your completed order—not an inflated estimate designed to protect us at the customer’s expense.

Should you decided to cancel your order at time of dispatch and the order has been branded, we can not refund or exchange the order as per our T&C. Should you decide to cancel a unbranded order at time of dispatch, return fees will be applicable as per our T&C.  If you have any questions about the Base Freight Fee or the final delivery cost for your order, please contact our team. We will be happy to explain the charge and provide further information where available.
